As even the team in the back can attest, the Royal Oak is undoubtedly one of the most iconic and influential creations by GĆ©rald Genta, forever transforming the watch industry. Now over 50 years old, the Royal Oak family has expanded from simple time-only pieces to an extensive range of sizes, materials, complications, and even ultra-complicated models, with over 500 different versions available today!
However, this particular model takes us back to its originsāthe legendary OG Jumbo, reference 5402ST.
This "D" serial example is arguably the rarest of the Letter series. While around 2,000 "A" series pieces were produced, approximately 850 "B" series and 950 "C" series followed. In contrast, there are only about 400 "D" serieswatches.
With the later "C" series, the AP logo was repositioned to the 12 oāclock mark, and all "D" serials were born with the logo at 12 as well.
We truly adore these "Petite Tapisserie" dialsāa fitting name for the Royal Oakās dial motif. The interlocking squaresand circular 3D shapes embody the concept of "less is more." The dial has developed a beautiful patina, with subtle discoloration on the dial, hands, and markers, adding further character.
The case and bezel of this particular watch are in great, sharp condition, and the integrated bracelet remains strong with minimal stretch. This fine 'Oak is fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
