Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso “Grande Taille” Two-Tone Silver Dial ref. 270.8.62 Box and Papers Set
In the early 1930s, businessman César de Trey was challenged to create a wristwatch that could withstand the impacts of polo matches. The solution came in the form of an ingenious design by René-Alfred Chauvot: a reversible case that could be flipped to protect the dial during play.
The Grande Taille (meaning "Large Size") was introduced as a larger version of the classic Reverso to accommodate contemporary tastes for bigger watches. The specific reference offered here was launched in the 1990s and remained available until the mid-2000s.
The stainless steel case measures 26 x 36 mm (excluding the lugs), with a lug-to-lug length of 42 mm. The case is in lovely condition. It comes fitted with a Jaeger-LeCoultre leather strap and secured by a JLC steel folding clasp.
The iconic Reverso “Art Deco” style dial is a classic silver two-tone version, featuring an inner railroad minute track, glossy painted Arabic numerals, a small running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, and an elegant blued handset.
The watch is accompanied by its original inner and outer boxes (with typical wear to the inner box), two booklets with a cardboard holder, and the original warranty card, showing a 1998 sale in Germany.
This timeless classic has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
The Grande Taille represents the evolution of the Reverso—offering a larger footprint while staying true to the core design principles that made the original a success.
