Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 6265 Big Red Panda Silver Dial

The Rolex reference 6265, introduced alongside its sister model, the 6263, represented the culmination of Rolex’s manual-wind chronograph development. These two references incorporated key innovations that enhanced both performance and water resistance over earlier models—most notably the addition of improved screw-down pushers, which significantly increased water resistance and earned the watches the “Oyster” designation on the dial.

 

The long production run resulted in a wide range of dial variations, many of which are highly sought after by collectors today.

 

Is there a more iconic chronograph than the Daytona? We doubt it.

 

This particular example comes from the final production years and features the famed “Big Red” silver dial—a beloved variant distinguished by the large red “DAYTONA” text arched above the 6 o’clock sub-dial.

 

The case remains in excellent condition, with thick, even lugs, and it is fitted with a polished steel bezel engraved with a tachymeter scale—a key differentiator from the ref. 6263, which was equipped with a black bakelite bezel.

 

The screw-down pushers are correct for the serial range of this 6265, featuring the finely milled groove typical of these years.

 

The Panda-style dial is in beautiful condition, displaying a rich shade of red in the “DAYTONA” text, crisp black printing, and creamy lume on both the hands and hour plots.

 

The Oyster bracelet is a reference 78350 with 557B end links and a clasp stamped “E01.”

 

This elegant Daytona is powered by the hand-wound calibre 727 and has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
