Rolex Datejust 1601 Blue Sigma Soleil Dial
First launched in 1945 to commemorate Rolexâs 40th anniversary, the Datejust was a major milestone in watchmaking history. It was the worldâs first self-winding wristwatch to feature an automatically changing date display â a function that has since become standard across countless timepieces.
Â
The original model, Reference 4467, was crafted in 18k yellow gold and introduced alongside the now-legendary Jubilee bracelet, which was specifically designed for the launch. It also featured a coin-edge bezel, which would eventually evolve into the unmistakable fluted bezel thatâs now synonymous with the Datejust.
Â
Decades later, the Datejust remains a pillar of Rolexâs design legacy â refined, versatile, and endlessly wearable. For many collectors, itâs not a matter of if they'll own a Datejust, but when.
Â
Presented here is a particularly nice example: a Reference 1601, featuring a sharp 36mm stainless steel case and a beautifully preserved white gold fluted bezel. A true classic that continues to age with grace.
Â
The blue soleil-finished dial features stick markers, white printed text, and a âsigmaâ marking at 6 oâclock â indicating that the markers and hands are made of white gold, a small detail we always appreciate. The lume plots have developed a lovely egg-yolk hue over time, which we also find especially appealing.
Â
The solid Jubilee ref. 62510H has end links marked 555 and a clasp stamped 'A3'. This blue marvel has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is ready for many more years to come.
