Introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date was the first wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full. Known as the brand’s flagship “prestige” watch, it is crafted exclusively in 18k gold (yellow, white, or rose) and platinum. Nicknamed the “President,” and often credited to Lyndon B. Johnson—who was the first sitting U.S. President famously seen wearing a gold Day-Date in the 1960s—the model has also been worn by notable figures such as John F. Kennedy (famously gifted one by Marilyn Monroe), Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Warren Buffett.

 

Our specimen is a lovely, classically 36 mm sized reference 1803 in yellow gold, featuring a strong case and sharp fluted bezel. The silver pie-pan dial displays a warm-toned patina that we truly love and features so called “ door stop markers “. The watch is paired with its iconic “President” three-piece semi-circular link bracelet, which is also in lovely condition, featuring a non-concealed clasp stamped “1/66” and solid end links.

 

This fine Day-Date comes with a super seldom-seen box set: a white outer box, an orange wooden inner box, a green paper holder, a Day-Date booklet, a punched large chronometer certificate, and Rolex Bexley United Kingdom service invoices—a truly exceptional package !
