Rolex Explorer II 1655 MK2 Frog Foot Dial Albino

The Rolex Explorer II reference 1655 occupies a unique and revered place in the world of vintage Rolex collecting.

 

Introduced in 1971, it was purpose-built for professional explorers—specifically spelunkers—featuring a fixed 24-hour bezel and a striking, highly legible dial designed to distinguish day from night deep underground.

Presented here is an early example: a Mark II “Frog Foot” dial, named for the distinctive coronet whose shape resembles a frog’s footprint.

 

The case and 24-hour bezel are in excellent condition and are paired with an Oyster bracelet, reference 78360, fitted with 580 end links and a clasp stamped “J1.”

 

The dial has developed a beautiful creamy-yellow patina on the hour markers and hands. The 24-hour hand has aged to a warm yellow tone, perfectly matching the lume across the dial—an honest and appealing vintage look.
