Rolex Gmt-Master mk1 Long- E Dial

Introduced in 1959, the Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 is widely considered the quintessential vintage GMT-Master. Its 21-year production run makes it one of the longest-running references in Rolex history.

 

The first matte dial version is nicknamed the Long E, due to the middle stroke of the “E” being longer than the upper and lower strokes. This variant is regarded as the most collectible of all. The 40 mm case is in great condition and is fitted with a beautifully faded red-backed bezel insert, where the blue has aged into a soft “watery blue” and the red into a rich raspberry tone—we absolutely love this effect.

 

The Long E dial has developed a lovely cream patina on the hands and hour plots. The watch is paired with a folded Oyster bracelet, ref. 7836, with end links stamped 380 and a clasp dated 4/72.
