Tudor Oyster Prince Ref. 7965 Gold Capped Silver Dial with Applied Numerals
The Tudor trademark was first registered in 1926 by the Swiss watch company Veuve de Philippe HĂŒther on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex. In 1936, Wilsdorf assumed full control of the brand and later established Montres Tudor SA in 1946.
Â
Tudor was created to offer a more accessible alternative to Rolex while maintaining comparable quality. Early Tudor watches combined reliable off-the-shelf movements with Rolex cases and bracelets, allowing the brand to deliver durability and precision at a more attainable price point.
Â
In recent years, there has been growing interest in Tudorâs historical timepiecesâundoubtedly fueled by the brandâs impressive modern watch offerings.
Â
On offer, we have a time-only reference 7965 in a rarer configuration.
Â
This 34 mm marvel is cased in steel that has been âgold capped.â Gold-capped, or gold-filled, is a watchmaking technique where a thick, solid sheet of gold is mechanically bonded to a base metal case, creating a durable, genuine gold exterior. This method was popular in the mid-20th century, offering the appearance of solid gold at a more accessible price. The gold layer is thick enough to be polished and resists wear far better than thin gold plating.
Â
This watch is in incredible conditionâ Even the original case back sticker is still intact! To make it wearable, we fitted one of our straps.
Â
The dial is gorgeous, finished in silver with the classic curved âRotor Self-Windingâ text (nicknamed âsmileyâ for its resemblance to a smiling mouth !) and applied hour markers with Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12, complemented by faceted stick markers in between.Topped off by glorious cream colour patina on hands and the petite hour plots.
Â
This lovely Oyster Prince has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is ready for many years of use.
Â
Considering the style, quality, and heritage of this piece, we believe it represents a very reasonable buy.Get in touch !
